Qualifications Required: --Bachelor's degree in Child Development or related field --Current Child Life Certification --Knowledge of child development and theory --Knowledge of appropriate Child Life interventions with patients and families --Knowledge of Child Life theory and how to apply theory to practice --Knowledge of medical terminology, diagnosis and procedures --Ability to effectively communicate with parents, pediatric patients and siblings about social, emotional, developmental and patient education issues --Ability to chart assessments, interventions and plans in medical records
Preferred: --Master's degree in Child Life or related field

Responsibilities The Child Life Specialist performs patient assessments and implements appropriate interventions for pediatric patients. Provides emotional support, procedural preparation, and accompaniment for pediatric patients and their families in order to facilitate adjustment to the hospital environment and experience. Provides patient resources and family support. Supervises volunteers and foster grandparents, and provides guidance to the child life interns and fellows.
