As a member of the Child Life and Creative Arts Therapies (CLCAT) leadership team, the supervisor ensures high quality, comprehensive services are provided to support the psychosocial needs of patients and their families. Provides direct supervision to Child Life Specialists and Creative Arts Therapists. Engages in opportunities to integrate CLCAT services within the hospital, the community and at national level by promoting and presenting evidence-based initiatives. Holds Child Life or Creative Arts Therapies certification and licensure; aligning self to opportunities that support professional development. This position is an integral part of the health care team.
Knowledge of creative arts therapy, child life, child growth and development, child psychology and family dynamics acquired through completion of a bachelor's degree in child life, child development, music/art therapy or related field. Master’s degree in a related field preferred.
Holds/maintains professional certification of governing clinical organization.
Current CPR certification – Basic Life Support (BLS) for Healthcare Providers (American Heart or American Red Cross) required.
Five years of clinical child life/expressive therapies experience required. Consistent demonstration and elevation of professional responsibilities and practice within a pediatric medical setting over the course of a three year period. Three years formal supervisory experience preferred.
Demonstrated understanding of the health care delivery system and its impact on the patient and family.
Analytical skills necessary to evaluate problems, assess complex patient conditions, develop plans and procedures, assist with the preparation and administration of budgets and effectively manage teams.
Demonstrates critical thinking and problem solving abilities in order to resolve complex clinical, systems, and personnel problems and issues.
Strong written, verbal and interpersonal communication skills. Computer expertise with Office products.
Knowledge of quality improvement methods and techniques.
Flexibility to respond to department needs on an 18 hour, 7 day of week basis.
