PRIMARY FUNCTION/GENERAL PURPOSE OF POSITION:

The Child Life Specialist is a professional utilizing current knowledge of childhood development theory to meet the needs of hospitalized children, adolescents and their families.  Is responsible for the planning and implementation of a comprehensive Child Life program.  Collaborates with pediatric nursing, physicians and other involved professionals in addressing the patient's needs.

EMPLOYMENT QUALIFICATIONS:

1.    Must be a graduate of a Bachelor's Degree program in Child Life, Child Development, Special Education or a closely related field.  Master's Degree preferred.

2.    Must possess knowledge of childhood development and related family issues; and apply developmental concepts for the purpose of assessing and meeting children's needs required, as normally gained through a Bachelor's Degree in 
Child Development area.   

3.    Must maintain current CPR certification and CCLS (certified child life specialist).
